Supreme Court judges took part in the international SIFoCC programme

09 july 2025, 12:34

Supreme Court judges of the Commercial Cassation Court Ivan Mishchenko and Yurii Chumak took part in the 5th Judicial Research and Observation Programme of the Standing International Forum of Commercial Courts (SIFoCC), which took place in London (UK).

For five days, the participants of the event, namely judges from five countries, including Supreme Court judges, had the opportunity to observe the proceedings in commercial courts, study the approaches of their British colleagues to resolving complex commercial disputes, and participate in roundtables discussing each stage of the court process. The training format included not only observation but also active interaction with the judges-mentors and analytical work with real court materials.

Ivan Mishchenko and Yurii Chumak learnt about the organisation of the British courts, in particular the introduction of information technology into the judiciary, and took part in a number of meetings with senior representatives of the UK judiciary. A significant part of the programme was devoted to discussing the relationship between courts, arbitration and mediation, which is particularly relevant in the context of the development of alternative dispute resolution.

The initiative is aimed not only at raising the professional level of judges, but also at forming a global community of commercial litigation that responds to modern challenges and ensures the exchange of best practices in the international legal space.

The participation of the representatives of the Commercial Cassation Court within the Supreme Court in this programme is a continuation of Ukraine's active integration into the international professional legal community. It is expected that the knowledge and new experience gained will be used to improve the national commercial court system and will be the subject of further exchange with fellow judges in Ukraine.
